ABOUT DENTAL IMPLANT

WHAT ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS?

Dental implants replace missing teeth while closely resembling real teeth. The implant includes two parts: a titanium post and a crown. Our dentist puts the post into the jawbone and gums, where it will become permanently attached and act as a tooth root. A crown is attached to the post to provide a similar look and function of real teeth.

TYPES OF DENTAL IMPLANTS?

Full Mouth Implants for patients who should replace full upper and/or lower set of their teeth.

Multiple Implants are when most patients are missing more than one tooth, but still has healthy gums and surrounding teeth.

Single-Tooth Implant treatment is used when the patient has lost a single tooth due to an accident or from periodontal disease.

WHAT IS THE COST OF DENTAL IMPLANTS

The cost can vary based on factors like the dental office, your location, the number of missing teeth and your oral health. Nonetheless, you could expect to pay approximately around $2500 for a single dental implant. But for a full list of our dental implant specials and pricing, please book your next appointment today and ask to speak to one of our expert treatment coordinators who will assist you in finding the most affordable dental implant plan for your next treatment.

DOES INSURANCE COVER DENTAL IMPLANTS?

In most cases, your dental insurance will not cover the cost of dental implants, although it may help with the cost of the crown part. This is because insurance companies generally consider this procedure to be an elective one, while dentists find it favorable to other options and beneficial.

HOW DO I PAY FOR DENTAL IMPLANTS?

First, check if your dental insurance will cover even a portion of the cost of dental implants. If you need further financial support, ask our dental office about payment plan such as CareCredit, Wells Fargo Health Advantage, LendingClub, Green Sky or many other third party financial payment options that could help you cover the cost broken down over time.

TYPES OF DENTAL IMPLANTS

SINGLE TOOTH IMPLANTS

This is the basic type of dental implants that involves a single titanium post being implanted into or onto the jawbone, with a crown added to the top. This method is used when one tooth is missing and the jawbone and gums have the structure to support the post.

PARTIAL DENTAL IMPLANTS

This type fills in a few missing teeth in one area through the use of a partial denture. Rather than have a partial denture be supported by surrounding teeth, this method attaches the partial denture to implant posts that are permanently attached to the jawbone for improved strength and permanency.

IMPLANT SUPPORTED DENTURES

Implant supported dentures use the post part of dental implants along with removable over-dentures instead of crowns. This technique is used when you’re missing all your teeth. Instead of removable dentures, you have posts implanted into your jawbone, and then dentures are attached to the posts to provide a more permanent solution.

ALL-ON-4 DENTAL IMPLANTS

This is a type of full mouth dental implants that uses only four implant posts strategically positioned to support a full arch of teeth. If you need both the top and bottom teeth restored, you would need four posts on the top and four posts on the bottom of your mouth.

FULL MOUTH DENTAL IMPLANTS

This method provides replacement teeth when all teeth are missing. It uses six to eight posts on the top and four to six posts on the bottom, which are attached to implant bridges to provide the look of real teeth that are fixed instead of removable.

BEFORE DENTAL IMPLANTS

WHO NEEDS DENTAL IMPLANTS?

Dental implants are great if you have one or more teeth missing or need to have a tooth removed. They work for adolescents and adults once the facial structure has fully formed. You may want implants if you’d like a permanent solution that looks and functions like real teeth.

WHEN DO YOU NEED DENTAL IMPLANTS?

If you’re having a tooth removed or already have teeth missing from damage or decay, dental implants provide a possible solution. Different types can customize this option to your situation, including the number of teeth missing. For example, you could get a single implant for one missing tooth.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF DENTAL IMPLANTS?

Dental implants fill in missing teeth while looking and working like the real thing. They can improve confidence, comfort, eating, talking and appearance. Also, they improve oral health by maintaining the jawbone structure and the health of neighboring teeth. They are fixed in place and can last a lifetime.

DENTAL IMPLANTS VS DENTURES & BRIDGES?

Dentures are removable, while dental implants are fixed and permanent. Both dentures and bridges only fill in the missing tooth gap, while implants provide the increased structure and support of a tooth root replacement. Both dentures and bridges can be made more supportive and lasting when attached to implant posts.

WHAT TYPE OF DOCTOR TREATS DENTAL IMPLANTS?

To get implants, you can go to a general dentist who includes dental implants as a specialty. Dentists often refer you to a oral surgeon for the post part, and the dentist adds the crown after. Having said that there are many practices that do staff an oral surgeon or have general dentists who are fully capable, experienced and the necessary training to place dental implants. Another type of doctor who could have right training to place dental implants are the periodontists.

DURING YOUR DENTAL IMPLANT PROCEDURE

WHAT ARE THE RISKS FOR DENTAL IMPLANTS?

A dental implant involves surgery, which can always come with risks. Risks of dental implant surgery include nerve damage, infection or damage to surrounding teeth or other parts of the mouth. There could be bone loss, implant breakage or similar implant problems. Talk to our dentist about possible risks.

CAN I GET SEDATION FOR DENTAL IMPLANTS?

You will receive anesthesia to receive implants, but the type varies from case to case. Our dentist may use local anesthetic for a small number of implants, while general anesthetic may be necessary for more extensive work. You may have the option of conscious sedation with local anesthetic.

HOW LONG DOES A DENTAL IMPLANT TREATMENT TAKE?

The appointments to implant posts and attach the crowns are relatively quick outpatient processes. The long part is waiting for the jawbone to attach to the implant post, which can take months. You may need a separate surgery for the abutment that attaches the post and crown, which requires two weeks to heal.

ARE DENTAL IMPLANT PROCEDURES PAINFUL?

This procedure can bring pain and discomfort that is typical of dental surgery. You may experience pain where the implant was placed as well as minor bleeding, swelling and bruising. Our dentist may recommend pain medications and possibly antibiotics. Eating soft foods during healing may reduce pain.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING A DENTAL IMPLANT PROCEDURE?

Generally, dental implants require multiple stages. If needed, our dentist removes tooth damage and prepares the jawbone and gums. The implant is placed, and you wait for the bone to grow and heal. The abutment is placed with the implant or in a separate procedure. Then, the custom crown is added.

After Your Dental Implant Procedure

WHAT IS THE RECOVERY PROCESS?

After surgery for the implant posts, you may be prescribed pain medication. You may have a temporary crown or bridge that will require certain precautions. Our dentist will give you guidelines to follow during recovery that include restrictions on eating and drinking, dos and don’ts, and what to expect.

ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS SUCCESSFUL?

In some cases, the implant doesn’t connect with the jawbone or otherwise fails, but overall this tends to be a successful, long-lasting treatment solution. You can increase the chances of success by following the recovery plan from our dentist and by caring for your new implants properly, including going for dental checkups.

CAN I EAT OR DRINK WITH DENTAL IMPLANTS?

Dental implants allow you to eat more normally than other options such as dentures. Nonetheless, you will have certain restrictions on eating and drinking during the recovery process after getting the implant posts. For example, you will need to avoid overly hot foods and eat pureed or soft foods at first.

WHEN DO I NEED A CHECK UP AFTER DENTAL IMPLANTS?

Initial checkups will ensure everything looks good. Over time our dentist will check on the healing and progress, looking for signs of gum disease and implant failure to ensure success or whether an issue needs to be addressed. Our dentist will provide you with specific information on followup.

HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF DENTAL IMPLANTS?

It’s important to follow the directions our dentist gives you for the healing process. After your crowns are in place, you should follow proper oral hygiene as would be recommended with natural teeth. This includes proper brushing and flossing as well as regular dental checkups and cleanings.
