DENTAL BRIDGES IN CERRITOS, CA

At Dentist of Cerritos, we are committed to delivering the highest quality care to our patients. If you have one or more missing teeth that need to be replaced, we have the perfect solution for your needs. Find out if dental bridges are the right choice for you.

WHAT IS A DENTAL BRIDGE?

A dental bridge, aka fixed bridge, is a dental appliance that is secured to your mouth to replace one or more missing teeth. It’s called a dental bridge because the basic fixed bridge uses the two teeth surrounding the gap (missing tooth) to anchor the new tooth/teeth.

WHY CHOOSE A DENTAL BRIDGE?

Dentures are low-cost, but they are removable and thus have downsides. If dentures aren't an option for you, you may be a viable candidate for getting alternatives like implants and bridges. These options feel more like your own real teeth than dentures.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF DENTAL BRIDGES?

Dental bridges offer many cosmetic and health benefits. First, with a renewed smile, you will feel like a million bucks!

Perhaps more importantly, replacing your missing teeth is actually critical for oral health. When a tooth is missing, it can put stress on the jaw and impact the adjacent teeth. Teeth may end up shifting, which can ruin your bite. Your gums may also be negatively impacted because your remaining teeth may become harder to clean. Thus, replacing missing teeth with a dental bridge has more than just a cosmetic benefit.

DO DENTAL BRIDGES LOOK NATURAL?

Yes! Dental bridges look very natural and typically look much more natural than dentures. The replacement teeth are not only tooth-colored are but created to match the coloring of your existing teeth.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF DENTAL BRIDGES?

We offer a variety of modern, effective bridges at Dentist of Cerritos. These include:

TRADITIONAL BRIDGE:

This is the type of bridge that gave the procedure its name. Two crowns are placed on teeth on either side of the gap, and the new tooth or teeth is secure between them.

MARYLAND BONDED BRIDGE:

A Maryland bonded bridge, aka resin-bonded bridge, does not use crowns to hold the new teeth in place. Instead, “wings” are secured to the back of adjacent teeth. They may be made of porcelain (ceramic) or metal.

CANTILEVER BRIDGE:

If your missing tooth is at the end of a row and there isn’t a second tooth to secure it to, a cantilever bridge is used.

ARE DENTAL BRIDGES COMFORTABLE?

Yes! Once your dental bridge is in place and the healing process is complete, you will find your dental bridge to be very comfortable. This is because fixed bridges work just like your regular teeth. They will also remove any discomfort you might have experienced due to missing teeth.

HOW LONG DO DENTAL BRIDGES LAST?

With proper care, dental bridges can last up to 15 years, with an average lifespan of around 5 to 15 years.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT WHEN I GET A DENTAL BRIDGE?

During your initial exam, we will take X-rays and possibly digital images to determine the best course of treatment. We will use digital imaging and/or take impressions of your mouth to determine the proper fit for your dental bridge.

We will provide a temporary bridge for you to wear while your custom permanent bridge is being made. Once it’s ready, you will return to our dental office in Cerritos to have it placed and secured.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER I GET A DENTAL BRIDGE?

After the dental bridge is put into place, your mouth will need at least a few days, if not a week or two, to adjust and recover. Thus, you may experience a little tenderness and soreness as well as minor bleeding. You should be able to return to your normal daily activities right away, often the next day after the procedure.

WHAT DOES A DENTAL BRIDGE COST?

On average, dental bridges cost from $500 to $1,500 per tooth, but it depends on the patient’s unique situation as well as the materials used. (For example, metal is typically cheaper than porcelain in Maryland bonded bridges). Check with your insurance company, as many may cover some of the costs for a dental bridge.

HOW DO I CARE FOR A DENTAL BRIDGE?

Take care of your dental bridge in the same way you take care of your natural teeth through daily brushing and flossing. In certain cases, we may recommend you avoid certain foods, and in general, it’s a good idea to avoid crunching on hard candy, ice cubes, or pencil ends! Visit us at Dentist of Cerritos at least twice per year for checkups and cleanings.
