WHAT IS ORTHODONTICS?

WHAT ARE BRACES?

WHAT ARE TRADITIONAL METAL BRACES?

Traditional metal braces use metal braces and wires to gently guide the teeth into their ideal position. Traditional metal braces are economical and a tried-and-true way of straightening teeth. Today’s modern brackets are smaller than those previously used, so they are more discreet and attractive. Kids can choose from multicolored elastics to create a unique and personal smile.

WHAT ARE PORCELAIN CERAMIC BRACES?

Porcelain ceramic braces use clear or tooth-colored ceramic to create the brackets, which makes these braces virtually invisible. These are popular among older kids, teens, and adults. They can be slightly more fragile than metal braces, and thus we tighten them more slowly, making them take a little longer overall. But for many patients, they are well worth it!

WHAT ARE INVISALIGN^Ⓡ CLEAR ALIGNERS?

Invisalign^Ⓡ clear aligners are an amazing orthodontic technology that gets the same results as braces but without wires and brackets. Instead, you must wear custom-molded plastic trays that are fitted to your teeth for 22+ hours per day. They are comfortable and can be taken out for eating, brushing, and flossing.

WHAT ARE RETAINERS?

Retainers are typically worn after someone has gone through a course of treatment with braces or Invisalign^Ⓡ. However, sometimes they are used on their own to help guide teeth into position. Retainers are removable and are worn at a specific schedule to “retain” the changes created by the braces or clear aligners.
